Pacifica Perfume Mails Catalog
Beauty and fragrance retailer Pacifica recently mailed a catalog offering a variety of herbal perfumes, soaps, and soy candles. The 40-page slim-jim catalog features its latest fragrance, Lotus Garden, on the cover along with the tagline "Truly Amazing. Beloved. Transcending." A statement from the company"s founder inside titled "Everyday Inspiration" explains her take on modern perfumery, saying that "fragrance is about inspiration, the action or power of moving the intellect or emotions." The catalog markets all of its products from this angle, and looks to various sources for inspiration, quoting philosophers and high thinkers such as Jean De Boufflers, the Dalai Lama, and Ralph Waldo Emerson ("Live in the sunshine, swim in the sea, drink the wild air.") Fragrance and product examples include French Lilac (Spray Perfume - $22), Thai Lemon Grass (Body Butter - $18), and Malibu Lemon Blossom (Pillar Candle - $8-$22). Products can be purchased individually or bundled in spray perfume, natural soap, soy candle, and solid perfume gift boxes. The "Why You Love Our Products" section explains that the U.S.-manufactured items are vegan and cruelty-free and do not contain parabens, lead, propylene, and phthalates. Orders can be made by phone or online and orders over $50 receive free shipping.

National Parks Conservation Association Celebrates Centennial
The National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) has recently started promoting a big milestone, its upcoming centennial celebration set for 2016. The 6" x 9" package proclaims "You"re Invited to the Biggest Birthday Party Ever!" A burst of brightly colored confetti decorates the envelope, which is complete with "RSVP." The reverse of the package announces the enclosed "Limited Edition Birthday Cards," as well as another free gift offer. The five birthday cards included in the package are national park themed, a distinctive departure from typical card packages featuring seasonal holiday cards or blank greeting cards. One of the cards features an image of the Abraham Lincoln Memorial, with a clever teaser reading "Four score and seven years ago" Cheer up you weren"t born that long ago!" The letter inside details the NPCA"s mission to protect national parks from imposing threats, ranging from pollution to encroaching development and funding shortfalls. The letter then goes on to ask recipients to accept the free gift stating "I hope the cards will save you a trip to the store, and a few dollars, whenever a family member or friend is about to celebrate a birthday." The reply form presents a $15/$20.16/$40.32/$50/$100/Other ask ladder, with a suggested donation of $20.16, corresponding to its centennial year. Donors of $15 of more receive an NPCA tote bag, as well as a subscription to National Parks quarterly magazine, a Park-Pak travel kit (map of parks, booklet of 400+ parks, etc.), an email newsletter, and invitations to guided tours around the nation.
